Grumpys childhood - in his words

As told to Lydia by Dennis:

Up until I was 6 I lived in Bermondsey at Number 3 Egan Street. My Grandad Smith lived about 100 yards away at 99 Delafourd Road. My grandad Clifford lived in Sydenham at 45 Coome Road. My dad was an engineer, my Grandad Smith worked on the railways and my Grandad Clifford blended tea. I went to Ilderton Road Primary School for about 1 year then I moved to Peckham 56 Shenley Road. My dad became a milkman and I went to Lyndhurst Grove Primary. When I was 11 I moved to Dulwich which people from Peckham thought was very posh, but it wasn’t! I lived at 200 Dunstans Road and still went to the same school in Mr Wheelers side car. Mr Wheeler was the maths teacher at Lyndhurst Grove. I then went to a brand new comprehensive school called Sedgehill. It was one of the first schools of its time and it had 1500 students. To get there I had to go on a bus and a train and still have a long walk, but if I was lucky the headmaster (Mr Brown) saw me at the Bus stop and gave me a lift, in his rover car. While we were there my dad stopped being a milkman and worked fixing dentist chairs all over the country!
